No Confirmation on Prince Harry and Meghan's UK Residence, Reports Suggest Althorp Declined
Royal insiders say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle turned down an offer to stay at a lodge on the Althorp estate, and no official location for their UK stay has been announced.
There has been no official statement about where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will reside while in the United Kingdom. A royal insider, Rob Shuter, reported that Charles Spencer, the Duke of Marlborough, offered the couple The Falconry, a 17th-century lodge on the Althorp estate in Northamptonshire. According to a source cited by a media outlet, Harry was emotionally attached to the property because of its connection to his mother, Princess Diana, but Meghan declined, citing the lodge’s remote location, distance from London and perceived lack of luxury.
Another insider said Meghan seeks privacy, security and easy access to London, along with substantial space and high-end amenities, which the Althorp lodge did not provide. The couple’s two school-age children would also need a convenient commute to London, adding to the logistical concerns.
Separate reports indicate that King Charles may eventually make the Royal Lodge in Windsor available to the Sussexes, with availability possibly beginning in October 2026. Prospective occupants would need to pass strict security checks and cover an estimated $540,000 in annual upkeep, according to The Times. A source told Shuter that offering the property could be an “olive branch” intended to keep the family close, though it remains unclear whether the couple would accept.
At present, Harry and Meghan appear to be maintaining their residences in Montecito, California, and Portugal, and have not confirmed any plans to relocate to a new UK property.
