Hollywood Walk of Fame star of Dolly Parton vandalized days after her death

Summary

Dolly Parton's Hollywood Walk of Fame star was scratched and is being repaired after a fan reported vandalism shortly after the singer's death at age 80.

The star honoring Dolly Parton on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was found with multiple scratches on Monday, a few days after the 80-year-old singer’s death. Fans had been leaving flowers, cards and candles at the site, but the damage was reported by a visitor who posted photos on social media.

Ana Martinez, spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, said a fan reported the vandalism and that a custodian told her the scratches were made with broken glass from a knocked-over candle. "A fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalized with many scratches," Martinez told Page Six.

The Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains the Walk of Fame, began repairs late last week. Flowers were removed on Tuesday to allow work to proceed, and the first phase of repairs has been completed. The star is scheduled to be polished on Friday for public viewing.

Parton received her star in June 1984. Her death was announced by her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, on August 25, and she was buried on August 28 following a private ceremony in accordance with her wishes.
