Hollywood Walk of Fame star of Dolly Parton vandalized, repairs begin

Summary

A week after Dolly Parton's death, her Hollywood Walk of Fame star was vandalized with scratches and is now undergoing scheduled repairs.

Repair crews began work on Dolly Parton's Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Tuesday, a week after the singer's death, after the monument was defaced with extensive scratches. The star, which had become a focal point for flowers and tributes, was cleared for maintenance that the Hollywood Historic Trust had already planned due to existing cracks.

Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said the vandalism occurred after the site was cleared for the scheduled repairs. A visitor, Lore Corona, posted a video on social media describing how she and her daughters arrived to find the star scratched shortly before they got there.

"Somebody decided to do this about 10 minutes before we got here," Corona said in the video.

According to Corona, a custodian at the location explained that a woman had kicked around candles left at the memorial, and shards from a broken candle were used to scratch the star's surface. The Hollywood Historic Trust will proceed with the planned restoration to address both the new damage and pre-existing cracks.
