Aaron Donald signs one-year deal to return to Rams, joining Myles Garrett on defensive line
Aaron Donald has agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams, reuniting with Myles Garrett on the defensive front, while some league executives expressed concern over the move.
Aaron Donald will rejoin the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year contract reportedly worth $20 million, with incentives that could raise the total to $30 million. The deal, confirmed by league insiders, ends months of speculation about the future Hall of Famer's return after a year of retirement.
Donald, 35, has not played since the 2023 season but brings a résumé that includes a Super Bowl championship, three Defensive Player of the Year awards, eight First-Team All-Pro selections and ten Pro Bowl appearances. He previously recorded 20.5 sacks in 2018 and has posted double-digit sack totals in six seasons as a defensive tackle.
His arrival pairs him with Myles Garrett, who set a single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025, creating a defensive line that could force opponents to choose which star to double-team. Analysts suggest at least one of the two will often have a favorable pass-rushing situation.
"This situation is messed up," a general manager told NFL insider Jordan Schultz, reflecting unease among some league officials.
ESPN's Dan Graziano indicated that Donald is more likely to make his season debut in Week 2 or 3 rather than the opening week, according to a recent broadcast.
The Rams will look to capitalize on the veteran duo's pass-rushing prowess as they prepare for the upcoming season.
