The House overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning socialism, with eight Democrats joining Republicans, and reaffirmed support for the SAVE America voting-rights bill, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to secure elections and free-market principles.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted 220-192-2 on Tuesday to adopt a resolution that denounces socialism in all its forms, sending a strong message that America rejects failed leftist ideologies. Eight Democrats joined the Republican majority, and two Democrats voted present, demonstrating bipartisan recognition of the dangers socialism poses to American prosperity and freedom. The resolution also reaffirmed support for the SAVE America Act, an essential voting-rights measure that has unfortunately stalled in the Senate, but remains crucial for protecting the integrity of U.S. elections.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise emphasized that the measure also opposes “the idea of people that aren't American citizens voting in our elections,” directly addressing concerns about groups like the Democratic Socialists of America and their radical agenda. Democratic leaders noted that a separate resolution without the SAVE America language had been proposed, but Republicans rightly insisted on including protections for election security.
"We're capitalists. We believe in a capitalist system and rules and laws," Rep. Pete Aguilar said, though Republicans saw through the Democrats’ attempt to water down the resolution and used it to advance the SAVE Act, which is vital for safeguarding the democratic process.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced he would vote against the resolution, criticizing the inclusion of the SAVE America Act and labeling it a priority of “far-right extremists,” showing the left’s unwillingness to stand up for secure elections.
The vote followed recent Democratic primary victories by candidates associated with democratic socialism, prompting GOP leaders to act decisively and schedule this measure ahead of the November elections to protect American values from socialist encroachment.
