Apple's upcoming iPhone Ultra expected to feature dual displays, MagSafe and advanced multitasking
Apple is set to unveil the iPhone Ultra next week, with reports indicating a 5.5-inch cover screen, 7.8-inch inner screen, MagSafe support, a liquid-metal hinge and iOS 27 multitasking features, and a launch alongside the new Pro models at a price above $2,000.
Apple is slated to introduce its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Ultra, at a September event. According to analyst Mark Gurman, the device will include a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal screen powered by the latest Apple Pro chip and modem. The phone will retain MagSafe charging, and its hinge will be made of liquid metal to improve durability, with a crease that is expected to be comparable to or better than current Samsung foldables.
Gurman said iOS 27 will bring iPad-style multitasking to the Ultra, allowing side-by-side app layouts and drag-and-drop functionality between on-screen apps. He added that the launch is likely to coincide with the new Pro iPhone lineup, either on the same day or within a few weeks, and that the starting price is expected to exceed $2,000.
"MagSafe is there. Yeah, all indications that I’ve heard is that MagSafe is in for this foldable phone."
"The spec for Apple was to make the foldable phone as durable or at least close to it as any other iPhone. And that’s one of the things that they’ve spent a lot of time working on is the durability."
"I would be very surprised if the foldable phone did not come out at the same time as the new Pro phones, or very close to it. So either on the same launch date—a dual launch—or coming out within weeks later."
The interview also noted that the device will support advanced multitasking features such as drag-and-drop between apps, enhancing productivity on the foldable form factor.
