Packers GM says running back Josh Jacobs expected to play despite pending legal case
General manager Brian Gutekunst said the team anticipates Jacobs will be active this season, while the NFL and legal processes continue.
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said the team expects running back Josh Jacobs to be available for the upcoming season, though the situation remains under review. Jacobs is currently on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list after being charged with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property related to an incident at his home on May 23. The league has not issued a suspension, and players on the exempt list are barred from practicing or playing.
Gutekunst indicated the organization will wait for the legal process to unfold before making any roster decisions, including a possible release. He added that the Packers have not yet received the surveillance video from the garage that police say supports the alleged victim’s account.
The former college star signed a four-year, $48 million contract with Green Bay in March 2024. In his two seasons with the Packers, Jacobs has rushed for 2,258 yards and 28 touchdowns and was named one of the offense’s three season-long captains by teammates.
