Man accused of impersonating 49ers player ordered to remain in custody pending transfer to Oregon
A federal judge in Idaho ordered Daejon Love, charged with wire fraud for posing as an NFL player, to stay in police custody until he is transferred to Oregon, where he faces additional charges.
A federal judge in Idaho has ordered Daejon Love, 35, to remain in police custody pending his transfer to Oregon, where he faces two federal wire-fraud charges related to an alleged scheme in which he pretended to be a San Francisco 49ers player. Prosecutors argued that Love poses a "serious risk of flight," citing his use of multiple aliases, vehicles, phones and lack of a fixed residence. > "The Defendant is a fraudster, who uses multiple names, multiple vehicles, and travels through many states to meet and con his victims," the filing stated. The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho confirmed that the judge granted the detention request. Love is being held at the Ada County Jail in Boise. A spokesperson for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon said his next court date will be set after the transfer, which could take some time. An 18-year-old alleged accomplice, Taylor Chan, has been released pending trial, with an initial appearance scheduled for September 10 in Oregon. Both men are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud.
