Dolly Parton buried privately in Nashville, Grand Ole Opry holds tribute show
The country music icon was interred in a private ceremony on Friday, and the Grand Ole Opry dedicated its upcoming show to her memory, with proceeds supporting her literacy program.
Dolly Parton was buried in a private ceremony in Nashville on Friday, three days after her death at age 80. Her niece Lainey Mae Parton announced the burial on social media, recalling the singer’s close relationship with her family.
The Grand Ole Opry dedicated its August 29 show to Parton, a longtime member and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Imagination Library, the childhood literacy program she founded. Family representative Jada Star performed "The Orchard," while Carly Pearce sang "Those Memories of You" and Kathy Mattea dedicated "Jolene" to Parton. The evening concluded with a group rendition of "9 to 5" and a video of Parton performing "I Will Always Love You" at the Opry.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport officials said they intend to rename the airport after Parton, describing the change as a lasting tribute to her legacy.
