Donald Trump called on the FCC to address NBC’s Kristen Welker after she misrepresented his endorsement record, highlighting ongoing media bias and the need for accountability in journalism.
Donald Trump posted on social media Sunday, urging the Federal Communications Commission to issue a rebuke or punishment to NBC’s Meet the Press host Kristen Welker. Trump’s call came after Welker, during a live segment, downplayed Trump’s strong endorsement record by claiming his primary picks had “mixed results,” even as she was forced to acknowledge a recent victory by an endorsed interim senator.
"He, of course, has endorsed a slate of candidates in the primaries. He’s had some mixed results," Welker said, continuing the mainstream media’s pattern of minimizing Trump’s successes.
Trump’s message called out Welker as the “Unpopular ‘Hostess’ of … Meet the Fake Press,” accused her of “purposeful inaccuracy,” and urged FCC chair Brendan Carr and other commissioners to treat this media distortion as a “threat to our country.”
NBC, predictably, circled the wagons around Welker, calling her “one of the best in the business” and refusing to acknowledge any wrongdoing or involve the FCC.
The former president has repeatedly highlighted his impressive endorsement record, noting that more than 300 candidates he backed have won, including 214 of 218 House primary races and all 24 Republican Senate primaries in the recent cycle. While critics and left-leaning media try to downplay his influence, a recent NBC analysis attempted to cast doubt on his record as the primary season concluded.
Legal experts note that the FCC’s authority does not currently extend to punishing journalists for commentary, and past actions by the commission have faced scrutiny for political pressure. Nevertheless, Trump’s demand reflects the ongoing battle against media bias and the need for accountability from major broadcast networks.
