Dolly Parton's Family Confirms Private Funeral and Burial

Summary

Dolly Parton was buried in a private ceremony at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville on August 28, following her death announcement earlier this month.

Dolly Parton was laid to rest in a private family service held at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville on August 28, her relatives said. The funeral was conducted for immediate family only, in accordance with the singer's earlier wishes for a small ceremony.

Her death was first announced by nephew Bryan Seaver in an Instagram video on August 25, and her publicist later confirmed her cancer diagnosis to the Associated Press without providing further medical details. Parton's niece, Lainey Parton, posted a tribute on August 29, noting that her aunt had been buried the previous day beside her husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025.

"I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words," Lainey wrote, adding that her aunt had always encouraged her and that she could not recall any negative memories with her.

"Thank you for always believing in me, loving me, and making me feel like I could do anything," she wrote in a message to fans.

Parton had previously told Entertainment Weekly in 2014 that she wanted the gospel song "If We Never Meet Again"—a piece her father favored and that was sung at his funeral—to be performed at her own service. The family’s statements confirmed that the funeral adhered to those long-standing preferences.
