Browns set to finalize 53-man roster as deadline approaches
Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry and head coach Todd Monken will decide the team’s initial 53-man roster before the 6 p.m. deadline, with attention on quarterback depth and the status of rookie guard Austin Barber.
Cleveland will announce its initial 53-man roster by the league-mandated 6 p.m. deadline on Sunday, marking the final cutdown day for all NFL clubs. General manager Andrew Berry and head coach Todd Monken are expected to determine the number of quarterbacks and wide receivers to retain, as well as overall depth across the roster.
The Browns are also evaluating the performance of third-round rookie Austin Barber, who started the last two preseason games at right guard and has drawn positive reviews from the coaching staff. Coach Monken has indicated that Barber could be in contention for a starting role.
Linebacker Carson Schwesinger, who missed nearly four weeks of training camp due to injury, has returned to practice and is expected to compete for playing time.
The team may make additional moves after the initial announcement, including signing players off waivers or adjusting the practice squad, as is common during the transition to the regular season.
