Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Max rumored to feature variable aperture, larger battery and new chipset
Upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to bring a variable aperture camera, a larger battery, an under-display Face ID system, a 2nm A20 Pro processor and Apple’s in-house C2 modem, representing notable upgrades over the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Apple is slated to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year, with several rumored hardware improvements over the current iPhone 17 Pro Max. The most prominent change could be a variable aperture camera, allowing the lens to adjust light intake based on conditions, a feature not previously available on iPhone models.
Reports also suggest the new device may house a larger battery pack, potentially ranging from 5,321 mAh to 5,567 mAh, compared with the 5,088 mAh capacity of the iPhone 17 Pro Max eSIM-only version, which could extend usage time.
Apple may also move its Face ID sensors beneath the display, eliminating the visible notch while retaining a smaller Dynamic Island element. The phone is expected to be powered by an A20 Pro chipset built on TSMC’s 2nm process, which analysts estimate could deliver an 18% performance gain and a 30% improvement in power efficiency over the A19 Pro chip.
In addition, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could be the first flagship to incorporate Apple’s in-house C2 modem, potentially offering better integration with the device’s hardware and lower power consumption.
These anticipated upgrades aim to enhance camera flexibility, battery life, processing power and connectivity for the next-generation iPhone.
