Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay reveal draws nearly 4 million concurrent viewers
The first gameplay presentation for Grand Theft Auto 6 attracted a peak audience of about 3.97 million across streaming platforms, surpassing other major gaming events in 2026.
The initial gameplay showcase for Grand Theft Auto 6 attracted a peak of 3,970,738 concurrent viewers across livestreaming services, according to data from Streams Charts. The event, which aired at 8 p.m. UK time, became the most-watched gaming stream of the year so far, outpacing Summer Game Fest 2026 and recent Nintendo Direct and State of Play broadcasts.
Streams Charts reported that 9,038 streamers covered the reveal, generating more than 5.2 million hours of watch time. Twitch accounted for roughly 44 percent of total hours watched, followed by YouTube at 34.8 percent and Kick at 20.2 percent. Spanish streamer Juan Alberto "IlloJuan" García led individual streams with a peak of 233,520 viewers, setting a personal record.
Technical difficulties on both Netflix and Twitch caused some viewers to be locked out for 40–50 minutes, but the overall online conversation remained high. Over a three-hour window, more than 100,000 chat messages were recorded, with 65–72 percent classified as neutral, 11–15 percent positive, and 17–20 percent negative, the latter largely focused on the service outages.
Cloudflare reported a 16 percent rise in global Netflix traffic during the broadcast, with a 45 percent increase in the United Kingdom. Twitch saw a 12 percent average rise in traffic during the three hours after the premiere, peaking at 35 percent, while YouTube traffic jumped 39 percent when the trailer was posted at 1 a.m. Rockstar’s own website experienced the largest surge, with worldwide traffic up 172 percent and a 1,210 percent increase in the UK.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The presentation revealed several new gameplay features, including revisions to the Wanted and carjacking systems, a romance mechanic, an expanded game world, and additional in-game activities.
"This is what a billion dollars gets you," observed a commentator. "The push toward realism and away from easy-going fun is a huge risk for the series," noted another analyst.
