Packers host Cardinals in preseason finale as roster spots remain up for grabs
Green Bay and Arizona will meet at Lambeau Field in the final preseason game, with several players on the roster bubble looking to secure positions at running back, wide receiver, tight end and the offensive line.
Green Bay will close its training camp with a home preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night at Lambeau Field. With starters expected to sit, the game provides a last chance for players on the roster bubble to make their case for the 53-man roster.
Running back MarShawn Lloyd is likely to start the game, but his snap count will be watched closely. A reduced workload could signal that the coaching staff views him as a potential regular-season contributor should starter Josh Jacobs face suspension or release.
At wide receiver, Isaiah Neyor, J. Michael Sturdivant and Will Sheppard each have a final opportunity to earn a spot. Neyor’s size and speed give him a slight advantage, though the other two have also shown promise in camp.
The tight-end group received a veteran addition on Thursday with the signing of Jonnu Smith. Smith’s arrival adds competition for Luke Musgrave, who remains on the PUP list with a neck injury, and could limit the number of tight ends the Packers keep for the regular season.
On the offensive line, Jacob Monk appears poised to start at right guard in Week 1. The preseason game will test whether Monk remains on the field or if other linemen, such as Jager Burton or Donovan Jennings, can challenge the position.
Rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse has been working primarily with the first-team defense and may receive starter-level reps. His participation, along with that of Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine and Benjamin St-Juste, will help the coaching staff determine depth-chart decisions before the regular season begins.
