Raiders defeat 49ers 18-12 in preseason finale

Summary

The Las Vegas Raiders beat the San Francisco 49ers 18-12 at Allegiant Stadium, with both teams relying on field goals and the 49ers' depth at running back highlighted.

The Las Vegas Raiders secured an 18-12 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the preseason finale at Allegiant Stadium on Aug. 27. Eddy Piñeiro converted all six of his field-goal attempts, including a 59-yard kick that gave San Francisco a 12-9 lead with just over nine minutes left. Matt Gay responded with a 48-yard field goal for the Raiders to tie the game, and Piñeiro later added 51- and 54-yard kicks to clinch the victory. No touchdowns were recorded, reflecting strong defensive play from both sides.

San Francisco’s running back group saw notable contributions: rookie Kaelon Black averaged seven yards per carry, Jordan James added 35 rushing yards on eight attempts, and Khalil Herbert recorded 40 yards on six carries. Sincere McCormick had a modest output of eight yards on seven touches, while the team also noted the offseason addition of Deebo Samuel Sr. as a potential backfield option.

Second- and third-string players received final evaluations before roster cuts. Quarterback Adrian Martinez completed 12 of 21 passes for 130 yards, and special-teams performer KhaDarel Hodge made several impactful catches. The game also gave starters a chance to rest ahead of the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne on Sept. 10.

Piñeiro, who was signed during the offseason, went perfect on field goals, extending his previous season’s 96.6% success rate. The Raiders’ rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza struggled, posting a 31.0 passer rating after completing seven of 14 attempts for 57 yards, being sacked twice and throwing an interception.

San Francisco incurred nine penalties for 84 yards, a point the coaching staff will likely address before the regular season begins.
