AMC to Re-Screen Dolly Parton Films "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Steel Magnolias"

Summary

AMC Theatres will show two movies featuring Dolly Parton at 200 locations from Aug. 28 through Sept. 2 at discounted prices, marking a tribute after the singer’s death.

AMC Theatres announced that it will screen two films starring the late Dolly Parton — the 1982 musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and the 1989 dramedy Steel Magnolias — at roughly 200 of its U.S. locations. The showings will run from Friday, Aug. 28 through Wednesday, Sept. 2, and tickets will be offered at reduced rates.

The move follows Parton’s death on Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief illness. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas featured Parton alongside Burt Reynolds, Jim Nabors, Charles Durning and Dom DeLuise, and earned two Golden Globe nominations, including one for Parton as Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. Steel Magnolias presented Parton as hairdresser Truvy Jones and included a cast that featured Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Julia Roberts and others; the film received multiple award nominations and a Golden Globe win for Roberts.

"We’re honored to bring these beloved films back to the big screen as a celebration of Dolly Parton’s lasting impact on film and music," said AMC CEO Adam Aron.

The screenings are part of AMC’s broader programming initiative and will be listed on the chain’s website for customers to locate participating theaters.
