Israeli Airstrikes Target Houthi Positions in Sanaa Following Missile Attack
Israel conducted airstrikes in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, targeting Houthi military sites after the group launched a missile with a cluster bomb warhead at Israel.
On August 24, 2025, Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple locations in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, following a missile attack by Houthi rebels on Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the strikes aimed at a military compound near the presidential palace, two power plants, and a fuel storage site.
The Houthi-run health ministry stated that at least two people were killed and 35 others wounded in the attacks. The IDF described the targeted power plants as significant electricity supply facilities for military activities.
This military action was in response to a Houthi-launched ballistic missile on August 22, which, according to Israeli military assessments, carried a cluster bomb warhead—a first in the conflict. The missile fragmented mid-air, with one sub-munition causing minor damage in central Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the situation, stating that the Houthis are "learning the hard way that it will pay and is paying a heavy price for its aggression against the State of Israel."
The Houthis, backed by Iran, have been launching missiles and drones toward Israel and targeting ships in the Red Sea for over 22 months, claiming to act in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
