Israel Conducts Airstrikes in Yemen Following Houthi Missile Attack
Israel launched airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, targeting Houthi-controlled sites after the rebels fired a missile with sub-munitions at Israel.
On August 24, 2025, Israel carried out airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, targeting sites controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The Israeli military reported that the strikes hit a military compound near the presidential palace, two power plants, and a fuel storage facility. These actions were in response to a Houthi-launched missile, which, for the first time, contained sub-munitions intended to detonate upon impact.
Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported that at least two people were killed and five others injured in the Israeli strikes. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated, "For every missile the Houthis launch at Israel, they will pay many times over."
The Houthis have been launching missiles and drones toward Israel since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, claiming these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians. In response, Israel has conducted multiple strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the port city of Hodeidah.
Houthi leader Abdul Qader al-Murtada reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Gaza, stating, "(Israel) must know that we will not abandon our brothers in Gaza, whatever the sacrifices."
