Man arrested in Las Vegas for alleged assaults and threats in Philadelphia
Zymire Hughes, 22, was taken into custody in Nevada after a Pennsylvania district attorney’s office charged him with aggravated assault and terroristic threats stemming from incidents in Philadelphia.
Zymire Hughes, 22, was arrested in a southeast Las Vegas apartment and placed in Clark County jail, with a court appearance set for Thursday. Pennsylvania authorities have charged him with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats related to a series of incidents in Philadelphia.
One reported episode on Aug. 12 involved Hughes approaching a woman while wearing a mask, asking if she was “ready to die,” and then chasing her after she fled, resulting in injuries to her spine and hamstring, according to the district attorney’s office.
"We take it very seriously any time someone thinks it is funny or entertaining to terrorize and harass individuals in any neighborhood," District Attorney Larry Krasner said. "He will be caught and held accountable for his crimes."
Philadelphia police noted Hughes had previously traveled between the East Coast and the West, including Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Nevada’s Violent Offender Task Force, represented by U.S. Marshals Service supervisory deputy Robert Clark, located Hughes after surveillance of his Las Vegas residence. Clark said Hughes surrendered when officers knocked on his door, attempted to resist handcuffing, and was subsequently subdued.
"Tonight, the fear that one man brought to the Philadelphia community comes to an end," Clark said.
The Marshals Service indicated Hughes had been living in Las Vegas since February, fled Pennsylvania on Aug. 19, and traveled through Orlando before arriving in Nevada.
