Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom demands WNBA explanation after courtside ejection
Enes Kanter Freedom wrote to WNBA commissioner seeking clarification and a ticket refund after security removed him from a Chicago Sky game, alleging selective enforcement of league policies.
Former NBA first-round pick Enes Kanter Freedom sent a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert requesting an explanation for his removal from a Chicago Sky versus Indiana Fever game at Wintrust Arena on Sunday. Freedom said he was escorted out after Sky guard Natasha Cloud approached his courtside seat, yelled, cursed and pointed at him, and that security intervened without issuing a warning, as required by the league’s Fan Code of Conduct.
Freedom argued that the league’s policies were applied inconsistently, noting that Cloud had not faced disciplinary action for the same conduct. He asked the commissioner to identify the rule or directive used to justify his ejection, clarify who ordered the removal, review Cloud’s behavior under league policy, provide a full refund for his tickets, and preserve all related documentation.
The former player also referenced recent incidents involving spectators with differing viewpoints on transgender participation in women’s sports, suggesting a pattern of viewpoint-based treatment by the WNBA. The league and the Chicago Sky have not responded to requests for comment.
