Chicago Sky bans Enes Kanter Freedom from home games after altercation

Summary

The Chicago Sky announced that former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom will be barred from attending future home games following an incident with guard Natasha Cloud during a loss to the Indiana Fever.

Chicago Sky owner Michael Alter said the team will prohibit former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom from entering Wintrust Arena for Sky games until he can demonstrate compliance with the organization’s rules. The decision follows an ejection on Sunday when Freedom, seated along the baseline wearing a shirt that read "WOMAN noun. adult human female," was approached by Sky guard Natasha Cloud late in the third quarter. Cloud confronted Freedom, yelling and pointing, after which security and several Sky players intervened. Freedom was escorted from the court area and later spoke with police before leaving the arena.

"It was pretty clear to us that his purpose of coming here was trying to be provocative and just see how much attention he could get and stir up and create," Alter told reporters.

The Sky’s statement indicated that Freedom’s future attendance will be considered only if he can satisfy the team that he will not pose a threat. The incident occurred during a 78-71 loss to the Indiana Fever. Indiana star Caitlin Clark said she was unaware of the confrontation, noting the team was focused on the next play.

Alter also addressed a separate incident in which multiple sex toys were thrown onto the court during a recent victory, saying the team is identifying those involved and will take steps to prevent similar actions.
