Police shooting kills 22-year-old college baseball player in Pennsylvania

Summary

A 22-year-old college baseball player was shot and killed by Upper Pottsgrove Township police after mistakenly approaching a home, and the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.

Upper Pottsgrove Township police shot and killed 22-year-old Glenwood "Bubba" Pysher IV on Aug. 23 after he mistakenly approached a residence he thought was a friend's house. The incident followed a 911 call reporting a possible break-in at a home on Snyder Road. Police arrived and found a male in the rear of the residence, leading to an encounter that resulted in the shooting, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele's office.

Pysher, a college baseball player who had attended Francis Marion University, Northampton Community College and Holy Family University and was preparing for his senior year at St. Elizabeth College in New Jersey, was reportedly not armed, his mother said. She described that after bar-hopping with friends, he took a wrong turn and knocked on the back door of the wrong house, prompting the homeowners to call police.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting remains under active investigation. The district attorney's office said findings will be released after the investigation concludes.

"He's never been in trouble — he was a good kid. I don't know what prompted the cop to think that the shooting was necessary," said Erin Pysher, the victim's mother. "He was the biggest sweetheart — carefree and loving. He loved life, loved hanging out with his friends, and fishing. Baseball was his life; he was getting ready to start his senior year," she added.
