Darline Graham Wins South Carolina Republican Senate Primary
Darline Graham, sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, secured the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina, winning 52.5% of the vote in a primary backed by President Donald Trump.
South Carolina voters selected Darline Graham as the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by her brother, the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham, who has not previously held elected office, received strong support from President Donald Trump, who campaigned in the state on her behalf. She defeated Congressman Ralph Norman, another Trump supporter, with 52.5% of the vote, according to CBS News.
Graham, currently serving as a temporary replacement for her brother, thanked supporters and Trump in a post on X, describing herself as "deeply honoured and humbled" by the result. During the campaign she acknowledged limited experience in foreign policy, noting she is not well-versed in national security but supports the military.
Political analysts view her primary win as an indicator of Trump’s continuing sway within the Republican Party and expect her to be favored in the November general election, a race in a state that has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in decades.
The primary was part of broader contests across the country as parties finalize their slates for the 2024 midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress.
