Eagles' Day 16 camp practice sees offensive miscues, defensive back Riq Woolen records two interceptions

Summary

During an open practice at Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles struggled offensively while safety Riq Woolen intercepted two passes, and several starters missed time due to injuries.

Philadelphia held an open practice at Lincoln Financial Field for Day 16 of its training camp, and the offense showed signs of sloppiness. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions, both intercepted by safety Riq Woolen, who also recorded a strong return on the first pick. The Eagles also registered at least four false starts and three dropped passes by receivers DeVonta Smith, Darius Cooper and Hollywood Brown.

The practice was impacted by injuries on the offensive line. Landon Dickerson was absent, with Drew Kendall filling in at left guard. Markel Bell missed the session with thumb and leg injuries, while Lane Johnson left early after a brief stint, replaced by Fred Johnson. Jordan Mailata rotated in and out, with John Ojukwu stepping in at left tackle when needed.

Defensive pressure was evident as Nolan Smith recorded a sack on Lane Johnson before he exited the practice. Both Smith and defensive end Jalyx Hunt are projected as likely starters for the regular season.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith, back after a practice hiatus since early August, made several notable catches, including a deep route against cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and a contested reception against Woolen. Makai Lemon participated in a semi-active role, catching short passes and scoring a touchdown on a coverage bust, while also showing aggressive blocking on a run play.

Hurts connected on deep crossing routes with Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown, the latter scoring a touchdown after the catch. He also threw a touchdown pass to running back Saquon Barkley on a corner route despite tight coverage from defender Zack Baun.

On special teams, Britain Covey, Cooper DeJean, Makai Lemon and Elijah Moore handled punt returns, while Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby were listed as first-team kick returners. Gunner duties featured Kelee Ringo and Darius Cooper among others.

The Eagles have one more practice scheduled before a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday at 8 p.m., after which the roster will be trimmed to the regular-season limit.
