Meghan Markle's Possible Appearance on Netflix's "The Gentlemen" Remains Unconfirmed

Summary

Reports that the Duchess of Sussex was slated for a role in the upcoming season of Netflix's series "The Gentlemen" were based on an early, informal suggestion by director Guy Ritchie and have not resulted in a signed contract.

Netflix is set to launch the second season of Guy Ritchie’s series "The Gentlemen" on Sept. 3, with promotional events planned in London. Earlier this week, rumors circulated that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, might be returning to acting with a part in the show after a report that she was considering a role in a Netflix project.

The speculation originated from a brief comment by Australian royal reporter Bronte Coy and was later amplified by entertainment outlets linking the Duchess to the series. According to a source familiar with the situation, Ritchie mentioned Meghan’s name only as a speculative idea during early brainstorming, and no formal offer or contract was ever made. The source noted that the suggestion may have been shared through the parties’ mutual agency, WME, but there is no evidence that Meghan was directly approached.

The claim that the role was withdrawn because of “backlash” is also unverified; scripts for the season are still being written, and a role could still be created if the creators choose to pursue it. The source added that while Meghan is a polarizing figure in the UK, this is not necessarily a barrier for Ritchie.

Netflix’s publicity team expects the upcoming press events to be heavily focused on the Duchess, which could shift attention from the show’s cast and crew. However, the series’ producers view the heightened media interest as additional exposure for the program.
