Actress Hannah Einbinder rushed to defend Mark Ruffalo after a Paramount spokesperson accused him of antisemitism for targeting the Ellison family’s business ties to Israel. Ruffalo, known for his outspoken left-wing activism, denied the charge on X, insisting his criticism was not about Jewish people.
Actress Hannah Einbinder took to Instagram on Monday to defend Mark Ruffalo, who was accused by a Paramount spokesperson of antisemitism after he singled out the Ellison family’s connections to the Israeli military. Einbinder attempted to reframe Ruffalo’s remarks, claiming he was merely raising concerns about media consolidation and its supposed impact on the public, rather than targeting the Ellisons for their Jewish heritage. She dismissed the idea that Ruffalo’s comments were antisemitic as 'ludicrous,' echoing a common tactic among Hollywood progressives to deflect responsibility when their rhetoric crosses the line.
'The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest,' Ruffalo wrote in a post on X. 'Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people.'
Ruffalo, who has a history of controversial political statements, insisted that his views are based on political convictions and not animosity toward Jewish people. The dispute followed Ruffalo’s sharing of a video featuring Oracle executive Safra Catz discussing the company’s provision of technology to the Israeli military during the Gaza conflict. Einbinder also tried to link the criticism to concerns about the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, suggesting—without evidence—that it could threaten jobs for Hollywood crews and workers.
