LIV Golf's Indianapolis tournament may mark the league's final event
Michael La Sasso won the LIV Golf Indianapolis tournament as the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced it will not fund the league beyond this season, leaving the future of LIV Golf uncertain.
Michael La Sasso secured a birdie on the final hole to defeat Jon Rahm and claim victory at the LIV Golf Indianapolis event on Sunday, earning his first win on the league after winning the 2025 NCAA individual championship. The tournament took place amid growing doubts about the league's viability, as the Saudi Public Investment Fund confirmed it will not provide financing beyond the current season and LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil seeks new backers.
Reports have surfaced of delayed player payments, unpaid vendors, canceled events and the aborted LIV Michigan tournament, contributing to a somber atmosphere at Indianapolis despite efforts to celebrate the competition.
Bryson DeChambeau, who finished tied for third and placed second in the season’s individual standings, was asked about the league’s outlook. > "I think there’s a lot of potential moving forward. It’s been an interesting ride, that’s for sure," he said, adding that the challenges had made the organization stronger. He hinted at a possible "LIV 2.0" for next year but acknowledged that not everything had been perfect. > "If there’s one thing that I could say, it’s we did something different in the game of golf, and I’m proud of that," DeChambeau said, later posting on Instagram a collage of LIV images with the caption, "It was a good run."
Broadcast analysts Arlo White, David Feherty and Nicolas Colsaerts echoed a similar sentiment, noting that the current iteration of LIV Golf appears to be concluding while leaving open the possibility of future developments. > "I’m most proud of our crew, the men and women who have put these shows together under all the uncertainty and hostility," Feherty said.
With funding withdrawn and operational challenges mounting, the Indianapolis tournament is widely viewed as the likely final chapter of LIV Golf in its present form.
