Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver mourns loss of 2-year-old son
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is grieving the death of his two-year-old son, identified as an accidental drowning, while the team supports him during preseason activities.
Buffalo defensive tackle Ed Oliver is mourning the death of his two-year-old son, a loss the team confirmed after a medical examiner’s report listed an accidental drowning on June 28 in Montgomery County, Texas. Bills president of football operations Brandon Beane said the organization publicly expressed its condolences and will continue to support Oliver and his family.
Head coach Joe Brady, speaking after the Bills’ 31-7 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns, said, > "I’m a parent, right? And like, ever since I found out the news, it’s hard to, I mean, it was really hard. I can’t fathom what he’s going through. … It’s my job to be what he needs from me right now, that’s loving him and giving him the privacy he deserves."
Quarterback Josh Allen added, > "There’s nothing that you can say. There’s nothing that you can do. You have to let someone in a situation like that feel what they feel and do what they need to do. … We’re there for him in any way he needs us."
Oliver missed the joint practice with the Browns and did not play in the exhibition because of an undisclosed injury, though he appeared in ten snaps during the preseason opener against the Panthers. The defensive tackle, a 2019 first-round pick, has played 109 games with 32 sacks and nine forced fumbles, after a season limited by injuries that kept him out of most regular-season contests.
