Norris clinches Dutch Grand Prix pole ahead of Russell

Summary

Lando Norris secured pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix with a time of 1:11.163, edging out Mercedes driver George Russell by 0.102 seconds.

Lando Norris recorded the fastest lap in qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, posting a 1:11.163 to claim pole position. He beat Mercedes driver George Russell, who finished second with a 1:11.265, and championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who completed the top three.

Norris improved on his provisional pole time of 1:11.344 set earlier in the session, while Russell also lowered his time but remained 0.102 seconds behind. The session was initially dry before rain began to fall, prompting several drivers to head back to the pit lane for additional laps in Q3.

Oscar Piastri completed the top four for McLaren, followed by Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc in fifth and sixth. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and his temporary teammate Liam Lawson occupied the seventh and eighth spots. Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top ten.

Further down the order, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly qualified eleventh, while his teammate Yuki Tsunoda made the twelfth row. Haas driver Esteban Ocon qualified fifteenth, ahead of teammate Oliver Bearman in twentieth. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished eighteenth and nineteenth respectively. Cadillac’s Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez were the slowest qualifiers, taking twenty-first and twenty-second places.

"We are pleased with the progress of the upgraded engine and chassis," a team spokesperson said about Aston Martin’s performance.

The qualifying results set the grid for Sunday's race, with McLaren occupying the front row and the championship battle expected to intensify.
