Chris Hansen says A24 blocked his preview of Robert Pattinson film over NDA demand

Summary

Veteran journalist Chris Hansen claimed he was denied a private screening of A24’s upcoming movie “Primetime” after refusing to sign a broad non-disclosure agreement.

Veteran journalist Chris Hansen said he traveled to A24’s offices for a private 10 a.m. screening of the upcoming film “Primetime,” starring Robert Pattinson, but left without seeing the movie. Hansen told Fox News that the studio asked him to sign a legal agreement he described as far more extensive than a typical screening NDA, requiring him to waive rights to his name, image and potential legal claims.

"The lawyers at A24 wanted me to sign away my rights to my name, image and brand essentially, as well as any potential legal rights that would come out of the movie," Hansen said on the program.

He added that his attorneys reviewed the document and advised against signing, and that the agreement was not required of other preview participants, such as press or marketing agencies. A source close to A24 said the studio requested a standard NDA intended to prevent spoilers and protect its intellectual property.

Hansen, who previously discussed a forthcoming private screening on a podcast, said he has no financial interest in the film and learned of its existence through his reporting work. The film, directed by Lance Oppenheim and written by Ajon Singh, is described by A24 as “inspired by true events” and is slated to open in theaters on September 25 after premiering at the Venice Film Festival. A24 declined to comment on the dispute.
