Trial of Duane 'Keffe D' Davis Reveals Tupac Shakur's Final Words and Autopsy Findings

Summary

During the murder trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, witnesses disclosed Tupac Shakur's last spoken words and forensic details of his fatal injuries.

The murder trial of Duane Keith "Keffe D" Davis has brought new testimony about the final moments of rapper Tupac Shakur. A retired Las Vegas police officer, Garry Dale, who had stopped Shakur and Death Row Records co-founder Marion "Suge" Knight earlier on September 7, 1996, said he heard Shakur repeat the phrase “we’ll take care of it” while being transported to the hospital. Dale testified that he attempted to learn the identity of the shooters but Shakur was unable to provide further information before dying six days later.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Lisa Gavin, the Clark County medical examiner, described the autopsy findings to the jury. She said the fatal bullet entered Shakur’s right armpit, pierced a lung, and lodged in his chest, while a second projectile struck his right thigh, traveled into the abdomen and damaged his intestines. The injuries caused a collapsed lung and severe internal bleeding; Shakur had no head wounds. The examiner noted that the caliber of the bullets could not be confirmed.

Davis, a known leader of the South Side Crips, was indicted in September 2023 on a single count of murder with a deadly weapon intended to further a criminal gang. He has pleaded not guilty, and a conviction could result in a life sentence.
