Google to unveil Googlebook laptops and software name on Sept. 15

Summary

Google will host a media event in New York on Sept. 15 to showcase its new Android-based laptop line, called Googlebooks, and is expected to announce the official name of its operating system.

Google has scheduled a media preview in New York City for Sept. 15, where it will present its upcoming laptop platform known as Googlebooks. The event will feature a keynote from company leadership that is slated to outline the new computing platform, its software architecture and the company’s strategy for merging web-based productivity with Android code.

The gathering will give journalists hands-on access to the first Googlebooks from launch partners, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, at dedicated demo stations. Attendees are expected to be allowed to photograph, film and benchmark the devices, which are described as premium laptops built on an Android technology stack and featuring a distinctive Glowbar design.

Leaks have previously shown concepts such as a Lenovo 15-inch model and an ASUS variant, both incorporating hardware controls linked to Google’s Gemini project. The September event is also anticipated to reveal the official name of the operating system that has been referred to in reports as “Aluminium OS.”

Google initially announced the Googlebook category in May, stating that the first devices from the five hardware partners would arrive later this year.
