Shohei Ohtani hits 30th homer of season as Dodgers beat Rockies

Summary

Shohei Ohtani recorded his 30th home run of the year, his sixth consecutive season reaching that mark, in a win over Colorado, while the Dodgers remain eight games ahead in the NL West.

Shohei Ohtani added a two-run homer in the third inning of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies, marking his 30th home run of the 2024 season and the sixth straight year he has reached that milestone. The blast helped the Los Angeles Dodgers secure a victory over Colorado.

The Dodgers stay eight games ahead of the San Diego Padres in the National League West, though they entered the series with a 6-10 record for the month of August. Ohtani has not pitched since early July because of injury concerns, limiting his contribution to his hitting.

"Ohtani continues to be one of the best hitters in the league," a team spokesperson said, noting his four MVP awards and four Silver Slugger trophies.

The two-way star, now in his third season with Los Angeles, previously led the league in home runs in 2023 (44) and 2024 (54) and set a career high of 55 the prior year. He also homered twice in the Dodgers' win over the Rockies on Monday and is competing with Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong for the National League MVP award.
