Trump's approval rating hits lowest point in presidency, poll shows

Resumen

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Monday found President Donald Trump's approval rating at 33%, the lowest level of his current term and matching the low of his first term in 2017.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted over four days and released on Monday recorded President Donald Trump's approval rating at 33%, down from 35% in the previous survey, while 64% of respondents disapproved of his performance. The figure ties the lowest rating of his first term, which was reached in December 2017.

The poll, which surveyed 1,166 U.S. adults online with a margin of error of three percentage points, also highlighted public sentiment about the ongoing conflict with Iran. About 80% of respondents, including 87% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans, believe U.S. involvement in Iran will continue for an extended period, and only 16% expect the conflict to end within weeks.

During a rally in Garden City, New York, Trump argued that a modest increase in gasoline prices is justified to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. The poll found that just one in five Americans, and roughly half of Republicans, consider the war worthwhile.

The findings come as concerns over the war and rising fuel costs affect Republican prospects in the upcoming November 3 midterm elections. Voters now view Democrats as slightly better stewards of the economy, with 38% favoring Democratic economic management versus 35% for Republicans, according to the same poll. On immigration, 40% of registered voters said Republicans have the better approach, compared with 38% for Democrats, marking the narrowest margin of the Trump era.
