Sen. Jon Ossoff attacks Trump at rally alongside Sen. Mark Kelly

Resumen

Senator Jon Ossoff used a Georgia campaign event to criticize President Donald Trump and his allies, while emphasizing his focus on re-election and denying any interest in a 2028 presidential run.

Senator Jon Ossoff joined Arizona Senator Mark Kelly at a rally in Columbus, Georgia, where he launched a series of attacks on President Donald Trump and the administration’s policies. Ossoff described Trump as a "draft-dodging, crook president" who has led the country into a war he cannot win, and accused the president of using the Justice Department to target political opponents.

"He doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar," Ossoff said, referencing a senior White House aide.

The remarks prompted a swift response from the White House, with the president referring to Ossoff as "Pee Wee Herman" and communications director Steven Cheung labeling him a "radical, extremist Democrat" on social media.

Ossoff reiterated his commitment to his Senate seat, telling a media outlet that he has "zero interest" in a 2028 presidential bid. He also highlighted bipartisan support, noting endorsements from two Republican mayors in Georgia.

"If you’re frustrated about them using the Department of Justice and weaponizing the government against its people, I really understand that," Kelly added, echoing Ossoff’s criticism of the administration.

Polls in June showed Ossoff leading his Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Collins, by 13 points, though both campaigns expect a tighter race later in the cycle. Ossoff’s campaign has raised more than $77 million since the start of the year, maintaining a sizable war chest as the contest is viewed as pivotal for the Democratic Party’s Senate ambitions.
