Former Florida lawmaker and Palm Beach clerk suspended after child kidnapping arrest

Summary

Michael Allen Carvo, a former state representative and DeSantis appointee, was suspended as Palm Beach County clerk following his arrest on kidnapping and child-molestation charges.

Michael Allen Carvo, who served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2018 until his resignation in August 2025, was suspended from his position as Palm Beach County clerk of courts on Tuesday after being arrested on charges of kidnapping and molesting a child under five years old.

Carvo, a Republican who was appointed to the clerk role by Governor Ron DeSantis last summer, had been a prominent figure in South Florida politics and frequently voted with his party on major conservative legislation, including the Parental Rights in Education bill and restrictive abortion measures. He also supported DeSantis during the 2024 presidential primary campaign, traveling to Iowa to assist the governor's efforts.

Authorities have not released further details about the investigation, and Carvo has not yet entered a plea.

"The safety of children is our top priority, and we will pursue all appropriate legal actions," a spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.
