Cowboys sign veteran pass rusher Von Miller, owner says team remains open to trade
Dallas added former NFL sack leader Von Miller to its roster and indicated it could still pursue a trade for a defensive player if the opportunity arises.
Dallas signed veteran outside linebacker Von Miller on Sunday, with the player expected to report to camp Monday night and begin practice on Tuesday. Miller, 37, posted nine sacks last season while playing 37 percent of the snaps in 17 games.
"You get someone that’s been there and done that," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said, noting that Miller trains with the team’s pass-rush consultant B.T. Jordan, who has worked closely with the veteran.
Jones added that the signing does not alter the club’s interest in a “substantive” trade for a defensive player, saying, "If we had an opportunity, I would be open to a trade… if it would help us."
The owner expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, stating he is more confident than at the start of camp that Dallas could contend for a championship if injuries are avoided and other factors align.
