Sen. Jon Ossoff criticizes Trump over Iran conflict and alleged corruption
Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff denounced President Donald Trump’s handling of the U.S.-Israel war on Iran and raised concerns about alleged conflicts of interest during a rally in Atlanta.
Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff used a rally in midtown Atlanta on Sunday to condemn President Donald Trump’s approach to the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, saying the administration had misled the public and benefited financially from the conflict. Ossoff highlighted the extended deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln’s crew, noting concerns about conditions and mental-health issues, and contrasted this with what he described as the president’s frequent absences from meetings.
"They’ve lied non-stop about this war like they lie about everything. And they know they’re lying, but they lie and they keep lying anyway because in this White House, they view persistence in deceit as a virtue," Ossoff said.
He also accused Trump of using his office to enrich himself, referencing a recent stock purchase that followed a market-moving tariff announcement and a subsequent reversal of that policy. Ossoff pointed to a new subscription service that offers early access to the president’s posts on Truth Social, calling the practice a sale of presidential pronouncements.
The senator, who is seeking re-election in November, reiterated his support for legislation to prohibit members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks, noting that the Ending Trading and Holdings In Congressional Stocks Act has cleared an initial committee but awaits a vote in the Senate. Early voting in Georgia is set to begin in eight weeks, and recent polls show Ossoff leading the Republican challenger, U.S. Representative Mike Collins.
