Kushner Holds Talks with Hamas in Egypt and Meets Israeli Leaders on Gaza Peace Plan
Jared Kushner met Hamas officials in Egypt to discuss a U.S.-backed Gaza peace framework, then held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog in Israel.
Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to the White House on Middle East issues, met with Hamas representatives in Egypt on Sunday to review a U.S.-sponsored peace proposal that calls for Hamas disarmament and a transition of governance in Gaza. A source familiar with the discussions said the meeting focused on concrete steps such as maintaining the ceasefire, transferring administrative duties to a new Gaza authority, and deploying an international stabilising force.
After the Egypt visit, Kushner travelled to Israel on Monday, where he met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. Netanyahu’s office said the talks were "deep and constructive" and that the administration’s Board of Peace would establish two working groups on Gaza disarmament and on sanitation, clean water and public health.
The Hamas delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, was confirmed by regional officials who requested anonymity. The discussions aimed to translate the Board’s plan into verifiable actions, including Israeli troop withdrawals contingent on disarmament milestones and the creation of a Palestinian police force.
Kushner also met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to coordinate implementation of the ceasefire agreement. Regional foreign ministers, including those from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan and Indonesia, issued a statement urging the United States and the Board of Peace to take immediate measures to prevent obstruction of the roadmap.
The 15-point proposal outlined phased Israeli withdrawals from Gaza as disarmament progresses, supported by an international stabilisation force. The conflict, which began with Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, has continued despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, with the Hamas-run Palestinian Health Ministry reporting over 1,200 deaths in Gaza.
