Summary

Governor Andy Beshear said he has not heard back from Senator Mitch McConnell after requesting information about the senator's health following a month-long hospitalization.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear told "Face the Nation" on Sunday that he has not received any reply from Senator Mitch McConnell after sending formal letters in July seeking an update on the senator's condition. McConnell, 84, was hospitalized on June 14 after a fall and later moved to a rehabilitation center. He announced his discharge earlier this month and said he would continue recovery at home, but gave no timeline for returning to the Senate.

In a July 8 letter, Beshear wrote that Kentuckians were increasingly concerned about McConnell's health and his ability to serve, asking the senator to provide a direct verbal update and proof of his capacity to continue in office. Beshear reiterated the request in a second letter later that month.

"I hope he is getting better," Beshear said, adding that McConnell's "boss are the people of Kentucky." He suggested the senator could address the issue in a brief appearance on a television program or a short video message.

Beshear also criticized Senate Majority Leader John Thune for not providing information, saying the leader has a duty to ensure all senators are capable of serving. The governor emphasized the need for transparency to reassure constituents.
