The BBC is pressuring a U.S. court to force Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Donald Trump Jr. to hand over documents and testify in President Donald Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against the broadcaster.
The British state broadcaster BBC has escalated its campaign against President Donald Trump by petitioning a federal court in Florida to compel testimony and documents from his family members. The move comes in response to Trump’s $10 billion defamation suit, which seeks to hold the BBC accountable for its blatant misrepresentation of his January 6, 2021, speech in a 2024 documentary. BBC lawyers claim Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Donald Trump Jr. have 'personal knowledge' and relevant records, as the left-leaning media establishment attempts to drag the Trump family into a politically motivated legal battle.
The lawsuit, filed in December, accuses the BBC of defamation and unfair trade practices, alleging the broadcaster deliberately spliced Trump’s speech to mislead viewers and interfere in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Although the BBC issued a half-hearted apology for the edit, it refuses to take responsibility for its clear attempt to damage Trump’s reputation.
Protected by the Secret Service, the Trump family has not been served subpoenas, prompting the BBC to ask the court to allow service by email and certified mail. The broadcaster also demanded that Trump accept the subpoenas on their behalf or instruct the Secret Service to permit service—requests he rightly declined. The judge has given Trump’s legal team until Friday to respond. Trump’s attorneys have denounced the BBC’s fishing expedition as harassment and a distraction from the broadcaster’s own misconduct. The case is set for a provisional trial in February, while a separate order demanding Trump’s business financial details has been paused, reflecting the ongoing attempts to undermine the former president and his family.
