Eagles evaluate preseason performance after 24-7 loss to Ravens

Philadelphia opened its preseason campaign on Saturday night at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium, losing 24-7 to the Ravens. While the result is not decisive in preseason, coaches used the game to assess player performance ahead of final roster cuts and the regular season.

Defensive standouts included linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who recorded a sack, two quarterback hits and five tackles, and defensive tackle Ty Robinson, a 2025 fourth-round pick who also posted a sack in the first quarter. Rookie quarterback Cole Payton showed mobility with three rushes for 45 yards and connected on a six-yard touchdown pass to Erik Ezukanma late in the fourth quarter. Offensive tackle Markel Bell performed solidly in pass protection and run blocking, and versatile lineman Willie Lampkin handled duties at both center and guard without issue. Outside linebacker Josh Weru generated early pressure and a quarterback hit, while safety Marcus Epps received starter treatment despite not dressing for the game. Veteran wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, who did not dress, is expected to compete for the second-wide-receiver role.

Conversely, the Eagles' backup offensive players struggled. Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton completed three of six passes for 20 yards and was hampered by a dropped pass, while rookie Tanner McKee finished 6-of-10 for 35 yards with a passer rating of 66.7. Second-year offensive tackle Myles Hinton was penalized for a holding call that ended a drive in the fourth quarter, raising concerns about his depth-chart position. Rookie tight end Eli Stowers held on his first snap and managed three catches for 12 yards, but his blocking was inconsistent. Wide receiver Johnny Wilson, returning from a knee injury, was unable to play, missing an opportunity to showcase his abilities.
