A 41-year-old woman has been arrested and faces two felony charges after a shameless act of vandalism at the World War II Memorial, as President Trump criticizes U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro for her handling of similar cases.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced Friday that Melissa Farris, 41, was taken into custody and charged with depredation of U.S. property and destruction of veterans’ memorials after the World War II Memorial was defaced with soap, bubbles, and graffiti reading “Clean hands dirty $.” These serious charges could lead to up to 10 years in prison, a necessary response to such blatant disrespect for our nation’s heroes.
"Vandalising our World War II Memorial is a despicable attack on a sacred monument honouring the Americans who fought and died for our freedom," Pirro wrote on X, rightly condemning this outrageous act and referencing her family’s proud military service.
The arrest follows a day when the memorial’s fountain was filled with soap bubbles and red-green paint, a clear sign of the growing lawlessness emboldened by soft-on-crime policies. Pirro posted images showing a woman appearing to hold a spray-paint can near the graffiti, exposing the disregard these vandals have for our history.
Farris is expected to be arraigned Friday, but the Public Defender’s Office said she has not yet been assigned counsel.
This incident comes after Pirro’s controversial decision to drop charges in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool case, a move that drew justified criticism from President Donald Trump. Trump called out Pirro for failing to stand up for law and order, saying, "I was disappointed with Jeanine Pirro, really disappointed with Jeanine Pirro. She folded like an umbrella."
"Our beautiful World War II Memorial was just hit by spray-painting vandals. First the Reflecting Pool, now this. We are on their trail! Where do these animals come from??," Trump wrote on Truth Social, echoing the outrage of millions of Americans who are fed up with the left’s attacks on our heritage.
The Interior Department said U.S. Park Police are investigating the vandalism and are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice, reaffirming the need to protect our monuments from those who seek to destroy them.
