Bears name Tyson Bagent starter for preseason game against Browns

Summary

Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson announced that quarterback Tyson Bagent will start in Saturday's preseason matchup, while several starters will sit, and detailed the ongoing left tackle competition.

Chicago head coach Ben Johnson told reporters that the Bears will start Tyson Bagent at quarterback for Saturday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, with several offensive and defensive starters held out as part of the usual preseason approach. Johnson also said the left tackle competition will continue, with Kiran Amegadjie slated to start and rotating with Jedrick Wills Jr. to ensure both receive comparable snap counts, and the team will keep evaluating the position.

Practice concluded with Bagent throwing a deep pass to Kaden Davis for a touchdown, according to CHGO reporter Adam Jahns. Backup quarterback Case Keenum also connected on a long touchdown to Ray-Ray McCloud, Bear Report’s Zack Pearson noted.

Defensive back Cam Lewis and linebacker D’Marco Jackson returned to practice, while Braxton Jones participated in a limited capacity and is expected to rejoin full duties next week. The session was moved indoors after lightning forced the team to leave the outdoor area of Halas Hall, which remained closed to fans due to inclement weather.

The following players did not take part in practice: Coby Bryant, Tyrique Stevenson, William Wright, Terell Smith, Jaylon Jones, Tony Fields, Luke Newman, Zavion Thomas, Montez Sweat and Luther Burden III.
