Perez Hilton's sister describes brother's August 4 suicide attempt in Miami

Summary

Perez Hilton's sister Barbara Lavandeira recounted finding her brother injured after a live-streamed self-harm incident on August 4, leading to his hospitalization and a police response.

Perez Hilton's sister, Barbara Lavandeira, told Page Six on Wednesday that she discovered her brother, Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., severely injured in his Miami home on August 4 after he livestreamed self-harm on TikTok. She said his bedroom door, which is usually left open, was locked that afternoon, prompting her to check on him. When she knocked, he replied that he was fine, but she heard him faintly and later received no response. After unlocking the door, she found him in the bathroom, naked, with cuts and a box cutter in his hand, and covered in blood.

Lavandeira said she immediately secured the safety of Hilton's three children, ages 13, 11 and 8, by getting them into a car and calling 911. Paramedics later transported Hilton to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for significant blood loss. Lavandeira remained at the scene to speak with the crisis team and later helped apply towels to stop the bleeding while waiting for the ambulance.

She explained that she chose to speak publicly to provide a factual account amid circulating rumors and false reports. Lavandeira emphasized that her brother has changed over the past two decades, noting his public apologies for past controversial actions, and asked the public to respect his family during the ongoing medical and legal matters, including his mother's temporary custody filing for the children.

Hilton had previously been hospitalized in March for complications from taking flu medication on an empty stomach, which led to an ulcer, perforation, and sepsis, and a month later required emergency surgery for a large blood clot. He also cited difficulties adjusting after moving from Las Vegas to Miami and financial strain from medical bills. The family expressed gratitude for supportive messages from fans.
