IDF Expands Operations in Gaza City Amid Regional Tensions
The Israeli Defense Forces have intensified military operations in Gaza City, while regional tensions escalate with Hezbollah's warnings in Lebanon.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified their military operations in Gaza City, deploying two additional brigades to the Zeitoun neighborhood on the city's outskirts. This expansion aims to target Hamas infrastructure and disrupt militant activities in the area.
In a related development, the IDF reported the sealing of a seven-kilometer tunnel in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, which was allegedly used by militants for operations against Israel.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reported 51 fatalities from IDF attacks over the past 24 hours, including 17 individuals waiting for humanitarian aid. Additionally, one child reportedly died from malnutrition.
In response to the crisis, 127 food aid packages were airdropped into Gaza on August 15, as part of a collaborative effort involving Israel, the UAE, Jordan, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, and Singapore.
Meanwhile, in Lebanon, tensions have escalated over the government's plan to disarm Hezbollah. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem's threats of civil war as "completely unacceptable."
Qassem warned that any attempt to disarm Hezbollah could lead to internal conflict, stating, "There will be no life in Lebanon" if the government proceeds with disarmament efforts.
The Lebanese cabinet has tasked the army with developing a plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of 2025, a move that has intensified political divisions within the country.
These developments underscore the complex and volatile situation in the region, with military operations in Gaza and political tensions in Lebanon contributing to an increasingly unstable environment.
