IDF unable to clear settler outpost blocking Palestinian home in Qusra

Summary

Israeli forces attempted to dismantle a settler outpost that had sealed off a Palestinian house in Qusra, but the operation was halted after settlers gathered and blocked access, prompting the army to deploy additional troops.

Israeli Defense Forces troops and Border Police entered the West Bank village of Qusra on Wednesday to remove a temporary settler outpost that had blocked the entrance to a Palestinian home. Upon arrival, the road to the house was obstructed with rocks, preventing access. The forces dismantled the makeshift structures but were unable to disperse the settlers who remained on site, and they withdrew after several hours.

The operation was reportedly compromised after details of the evacuation were leaked to the media, allowing dozens of settlers to travel to the area in advance. A security source told Army Radio that the premature disclosure gave “Jewish rioters” time to gather before the forces could act.

Youssec Hassan, the homeowner, said large numbers of settlers arrived after hearing about the planned evacuation and that Border Police used tear-gas to disperse them. IDF Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth met with the family and other senior officers during the attempt.

Following the failed clearance, the IDF announced that an infantry battalion would be dispatched to the region to reinforce troops dealing with settler-related provocations. Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the deployment to strengthen operational control and to ensure clear guidance on the use of force. The army also said it would coordinate with police and security services to restore order and hold those responsible for the disturbances accountable.

The military confirmed it would take disciplinary action against soldiers who were filmed praying alongside settlers instead of removing them, and indicated further steps would be taken against the civilians involved. The incident follows a recent rise in settler-related violence in the West Bank, with UN officials reporting thousands of Palestinians displaced this year due to such incidents.
