Perez Hilton Gives Mother Temporary Custody of Children Amid Hospital Recovery
The celebrity blogger has signed court papers allowing his mother to assume temporary legal custody of his three children while he remains hospitalized, and his mother has asked that the case be sealed to protect the family’s privacy.
Perez Hilton, 48, has voluntarily signed court documents granting his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, temporary legal custody of his three children — Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8 — while he continues treatment after a serious health crisis. The filing, made in Miami on August 7, states that the arrangement is in the children’s best interest and gives Lavandeira authority to make medical, dental, educational and other essential decisions for the minors.
Lavandeira also requested that the custody case be sealed to keep the proceedings out of public view, arguing that further exposure could cause additional trauma to the children. The request follows earlier family statements asking media to refrain from photographing the children.
Hilton was hospitalized on August 4 after authorities responded to reports of self-harm livestreaming at his Miami home. He was placed under Florida’s Baker Act and suffered significant blood loss and injuries requiring surgery. His team described his condition as serious but stable and indicated that his recovery would be lengthy.
The temporary custody order is not contested; Hilton acknowledged he could later petition the court to regain custody after completing a reasonable transition plan. The move comes months after Hilton relocated his family from Las Vegas to Miami to be closer to extended relatives following a prior severe medical episode.
"The children in this case should not be subjected to any further trauma related to the incidents that are the basis for the Petition," the filing states.
The court documents highlight the family’s focus on privacy and the children’s welfare while Hilton concentrates on his health.
