Powerball jackpot climbs to $905 million as UK players join the draw

Summary

The Powerball jackpot reached an estimated $905 million for the August 10 drawing, the eighth-largest in the game’s history, and the lottery opened to players in the United Kingdom.

The Powerball jackpot approached the $1 billion mark on Monday, Aug. 10, with an estimated value of $905 million and a cash option of $391.9 million. The winning numbers were 6, 37, 54, 55, 64 and the Powerball 10, with a 3-times Power Play multiplier.

The draw, held at 10:59 p.m. ET, was the first since a May 2 split jackpot of $20 million in Texas and Florida. Powerball drawings occur three times a week and are streamed on the lottery’s website; recordings are also available on its YouTube channel.

For the first time, the game expanded to the United Kingdom, allowing British players to purchase tickets for £4 (about $5.32) and compete for the same jackpot. While U.K. ticket sales contribute to the shared prize pool, lower-tier winnings follow a separate structure, and U.K. winners will receive annuity payments over 30 years through the National Lottery.

Tickets cost $2 in the United States and can be bought at authorized retailers in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or online where permitted. Players select five numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball from 1 to 26, with an optional $1 Power Play that can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10. The next drawing is scheduled for Wed., Aug. 12.
